moldcostguide.com exists to answer one question honestly: what does mold remediation actually cost where you live? Most of what’s online is a single national “average” that’s useless in practice — the same job runs very differently in Atlanta, Denver and Phoenix, because the things that drive the cost are local.

What we are

We’re a data publisher, not a contractor and not an inspector. We don’t visit homes and we don’t issue quotes. What we do is model remediation costs, market by market, from public data, and publish the results with our sources and our method shown.

How the numbers are built

Every metro’s estimate is built from three public datasets — NOAA climate normals (the local outdoor moisture, measured by dew point rather than rainfall), U.S. Census housing records (age and building form), and BLS wages (local construction labor) — combined with a documented cost model. The whole method, including the model’s assumptions, is laid out on our methodology page, and every dataset is listed on sources. We currently cover 729 U.S. metro and micropolitan areas.

What we stand by

• Modeled, not surveyed — and we say so. Our figures are estimates, not quotes, and we’re explicit about what the model does and doesn’t capture.
• Sourced and versioned. Every input traces to a public dataset, and every figure to the documented model built on those inputs — which carries a version so any change is visible.
• Open to correction. We publish our work so it can be checked, and we fix what’s wrong. See corrections.
• Honest about the business. Reading the data is free; we earn a referral fee only if you choose to contact a provider, and it never changes the figures. See how we make money.

What we’re not

We don’t give medical or health advice — if you have a health concern, talk to a qualified professional. We don’t warrant the work of any provider; it’s always your responsibility to confirm a contractor’s license and insurance. And we don’t let anyone pay to change a published number.
